I am a New York State Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.) and Nationally Board Certified Diplomate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, NCCAOM). I received my training in Oriental Medicine from the International Institute of Chinese Medicine in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I graduated from their four year program with a Master’s in Oriental Medicine (MOM) in 2003. My training includes both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Classical Acupuncture and specialized training in Chinese herbs and tui na (Chinese massage).
I am a member of the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and the Acupuncture Society of New York. I participate in continuing studies in acupuncture and herbology, most especially with Jeffrey Yuen, an 88th generation Daoist master and priest.
Specialized Training in Classical Acupuncture
Setting me apart from other acupuncturists, in addition to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), I also practice Classical Acupuncture. TCM uses a 12-20 meridian system, whereas Classical Acupuncture has its foundation in original ancient texts and uses all 74 meridians. This unique and highly specialized form of acupuncture enables me to more effectively provide treatment especially for challenging conditions.
Classical Acupuncture treatments are typically more labor intensive and time consuming than traditional treatments. The practitioner pays special attention to the way the needles are inserted, the particular manipulation of each needle (this will differ greatly depending on the meridian), and to the intricate changes in the flow of qi.
My Healing Philosophy
The power to heal is an innate quality which comes from within every human being. Unfortunately, there are times when we become tired, overwhelmed with family, career, and life, or too distracted by all the demands and activities in our lives and the world. During these times we can lose access to the power to heal ourselves.
I believe each patient is unique and see everyone who enters my clinic not as an illness, but rather a person with individual characteristics moving toward health. I believe that my job is to “walk” with my patients on their healing journey - to co-create with them a state of health. I have created my clinic as a supportive, nurturing space where healing can occur, a place where an individual can slow down and stop the downward spirals of disease, illness, and pain.
Ancient Wisdom Healing Arts healthcare incorporates an understanding of how illness is created and gives specific attention to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual components of good health. I am also committed to providing my patients with tools to enable them to bring about healing for themselves in their daily lives outside of the clinic.
Herbal Tincture Development
In addition to my acupuncture practice, I am also the formulator and producer of a line of high quality Chinese Herbal tinctures. Not being fully satisfied with the herbal products available on the market and wanting products with higher bio-availability and potency, I started making a few of my own Chinese herbal tinctures in 2007. Over time it has grown into a full line of 30 formulas which are marketed to other acupuncturists as well. Many of the formulas date back thousands of years, while others were created by me to treat some of the common modern ailments that I see in my own practice everyday.
The tinctures are produced in small batches using time-intensive techniques to ensure a highly potent and optimally effective herbal product. They are cold pressed to protect the volatile, aromatic oils that may be harmed by other herbal production techniques. Additionally, the full spectrum tinctures are processed in either purified water, alcohol, honey (or a combination of those ingredients) to maximize the extraction of the plant’s constitutes with the traditional principles intact.
